Ceiling Fan Installation & Replacement
In Florida a ceiling fan isn’t decoration, it’s a comfort system that lets you run the AC three degrees warmer for the same feel. Which is exactly why a wobbling, ticking, badly hung fan is so annoying — you notice it every day.
I replace and install fans on existing fixture points, on the correct hardware, balanced properly, with the remote or wall control paired and tested before I leave.

Fan-rated boxes aren’t optional
A ceiling fan puts a live, vibrating, rotating load on the box — a standard lighting box isn’t built for that and the National Electrical Code (NEC 314.27(C)) requires an outlet box listed for ceiling-fan support. Those are rated to 35 lb as standard, or up to 70 lb if the box is marked for it. A huge number of the wobbling fans I get called out to are simply hung off a plastic lighting box that should never have had a fan on it.
Why fans wobble — and how it actually gets fixed
Wobble is almost always one of four things: a loose mounting bracket, a bent blade iron, blades of unequal weight, or a downrod that isn’t seated. Chasing it with stick-on balance weights before checking those four is how people end up with a fan covered in little lead tabs that still wobbles. I work through them in order.
Direction matters, seasonally
Counter-clockwise in summer pushes air down and creates the wind-chill effect that lets you raise the thermostat. Clockwise on low in winter pulls air up and pushes warm ceiling air back down the walls. In South Florida you’ll live on counter-clockwise nine months of the year — but I’ll show you the switch.
What this costs
A like-for-like fan replacement is typically 1–1.5 hours. Assembling a fan from the box, high ceilings or sloped ceilings add time.

My box isn’t fan-rated. What happens?
I’ll show you, and in most accessible cases the box can be replaced with a fan-rated one from below using a saddle brace. If the ceiling has no access and the framing won’t cooperate, I’ll tell you straight rather than hang it anyway.
Can you install a fan where there’s only a light?
If the existing box can be upgraded to a fan-rated box and the switch leg supports it, yes. If it needs new wiring or a new circuit, that’s licensed electrical work.
Do you assemble the fan too?
Yes. Most fans arrive in twenty pieces. That’s part of the job.
