Switches and receptacles wear out. The spring contacts in a receptacle relax over years until plugs sag out of the wall; toggle switches develop a mushy feel or a buzz; almond-colored devices from 1994 sit next to bright white ones from last year.
Replacing a device on an existing circuit is quick, cheap, and makes a room feel ten years newer. I also install dimmers, smart switches, USB-C receptacles and weather-resistant outdoor devices.

Smart switches need a neutral (usually)
Most Wi-Fi smart switches require a neutral wire in the switch box. Older Florida homes frequently ran switch loops without one. If the box has no neutral, the options are a no-neutral-capable smart switch, a smart bulb setup, or a smart relay behind the fixture. I’ll open the box, look, and tell you which of the three applies.
GFCI and where the code wants it
Kitchens, bathrooms, garages, laundry areas, outdoors and anywhere near water want GFCI protection. If your bathroom outlet has no test/reset button and no upstream GFCI protecting it, that’s worth fixing. GFCI devices also have a finite life — they should be tested monthly and replaced when the test button stops tripping them.
Backstab versus screw terminals
Cheap devices let you push the wire into a hole in the back. It’s fast and it’s the single most common cause of intermittent outlets and heat damage years later. Every device I install gets wrapped and torqued to the side screw terminals, which is what the manufacturers actually specify.

What kind of electrical work do you take on?
Straightforward like-for-like device replacement on existing circuits — switches, receptacles, dimmers, smart switches, cover plates. Anything that means new wiring, new circuits or opening the panel is a job for a licensed electrician, and I’ll happily point you to one rather than take it on.
Can you make all my plates match?
Yes, and it’s one of the cheapest visual upgrades in a house. Bring me a box of plates and I’ll work through the place.
My outlet sparks when I plug things in.
A small arc on insertion can be normal; scorching, heat, a burning smell or a breaker that trips isn’t. Turn the circuit off and call a licensed electrician — don’t wait on that one.
